Kaboria is the prized swimming crab of Egypt's lagoons and shallow coast — the backbone of the Bardawil Lagoon fishery. It's taken in baited traps, trammel nets and on baited hand-lines over sand and mud. (The American blue crab Callinectes sapidus has invaded too and is now also sold as kaboria.)

Its last pair of legs are flattened into paddles, so it can swim sideways through the water — not just walk on the bottom.
