The cuttlefish is a flat-bodied cousin of the squid that hovers over sandy and weedy bottoms, changing colour in an instant. It's the most abundant cephalopod in Egyptian Mediterranean nets; the Red Sea's version (Sepia pharaonis) was named after the pharaohs. Caught on cuttlefish jigs (egi) in the spring spawning run.
