The common octopus is a clever, soft-bodied hunter that lives in dens among rocks, seagrass and rubble along both Egyptian coasts. Shore anglers and free-divers target it with white octopus jigs and gigs at first and last light. Reassuring fact: the deadly blue-ringed octopus does NOT live in the Mediterranean or Red Sea — the local octopus is safe to handle.
Work a white octopus or gig over rocky and weedy at dawn/dusk, or set baited pots. Once it grips, keep steady pressure.
