An elongate, silvery trevally scattered with small golden-brassy spots above the midline and often three faint dark blotches on the flank of larger fish. First described from the Red Sea, it haunts offshore reefs and sand banks and is a strong, dependable jigging target.

Naturalist Peter Forsskal first named this fish from a specimen netted off the Egyptian Red Sea coast back in 1775.
