The robust, familiar 'flipper' dolphin with a short thick beak and curved dorsal fin, highly intelligent and often curious toward boats. In Egypt it occurs in deeper offshore Red Sea waters and is occasionally recorded along the Mediterranean coast.
This is a protected or non-target species — please don't fish for it. If it's accidentally hooked, release it quickly and unharmed.
Eating & safety
Watch only; do not chase or feed wild dolphins.
Best conditions: Calm seas offshore where pods bow-ride passing vessels
Bottlenose dolphins use signature whistles that function like individual names to identify each other.
