We didn't know what we were doing. So we built this.
ReefPin started on a bad fishing day somewhere on the Red Sea, with two friends, way too much gear, and absolutely no idea where to start.
The story
01
The morning trip
Two friends, one cooler, and enough fishing gear to confuse a tackle shop owner. We had rods, reels, and lures we couldn't name. What we didn't have was a clue.
02
Finding a spot
Hours of circling on Google Maps, asking around, getting conflicting directions, second-guessing every turn. Eventually, somewhere. We were on the water, excited, lost, and completely underprepared.
03
The technique problem
Three YouTube tutorials, a heated debate about sinker weights, and one bent hook later, we were fishing. Sort of. The fish had other opinions.
04
The idea
Sitting on the back of that boat, waiting for a bite that never came, the question was obvious: why is there no single place for this? Spots, techniques, conditions, built for Egypt, built for beginners.
“There had to be one place. Spots, conditions, techniques, species. Built for the Red Sea. Built so that beginners can stop searching and start fishing.”
The ReefPin team
What we built
The fishing companion we wish we'd had
ReefPin won't catch fish for you. But it will point you to where they are, tell you which technique works there, show you what bait to use, and give you the local Arabic name when the fisherman next to you asks what you're after.
It's built for Egypt. The Red Sea, the Mediterranean coast, Lake Nasser, the Nile. Every spot, every species, every condition card is calibrated for where you actually fish. Not translated from an app built for Norway.
Everything in one place
Community first
The app grows when anglers share
Every time an angler posts a catch, shares a spot, or answers a beginner's question in the community board, ReefPin gets better for everyone.
We build the tools. You bring the knowledge. The fisherman who knows the reef between Hurghada and El Gouna better than anyone: that knowledge belongs in here, not in a WhatsApp group that disappears.
What we believe in
- Real over invented
- Every spot on the map, every fish name, every charter listing, verified from real sources. We don't make things up because it's easier.
- Beginners first
- If an absolute beginner can't understand it, we haven't written it clearly enough. No assumed knowledge, no gatekeeping.
- Egypt-specific
- Built for the water you're actually standing next to. Arabic fish names, local tackle shops, Egyptian seasons.
- Fun stays first
- Fishing is supposed to be enjoyable. The app should feel like advice from a friend, not homework.
