A curious shark-like ray with a flattened, wedge-shaped snout and a slender, ray-meets-shark body that gives it its guitar shape. It lives on sandy and muddy bottoms of the Egyptian Mediterranean coast, where it is heavily impacted by trawl bycatch.
This is a protected or non-target species — please don't fish for it. If it's accidentally hooked, release it quickly and unharmed.
Eating & safety
Harmless to humans, but this critically endangered species should be released alive if caught as bycatch.
Best conditions: Shallow sandy and muddy coastal flats in the warmer months
