A large, slender, all-dark oceanic dolphin with a rounded head and no beak, despite its whale-like name. It is recorded with some regularity in the Egyptian Red Sea, traveling in tight social pods that range over deep water.
This is a protected or non-target species — please don't fish for it. If it's accidentally hooked, release it quickly and unharmed.
Eating & safety
Observe only; these are powerful deep-water predators and should never be approached or fed.
Best conditions: Deep offshore water where pods travel and hunt large fish
False killer whales sometimes share their catch, passing fish between pod members at the surface.
