FG Knot

Hard

Line-to-Line · Line strength ~100%

THE connection knot for jigging & popping: joins braided main line to a fluorocarbon leader. Extremely thin and strong — flies clean through the guides.

When to use it

  • ·Braid → fluorocarbon/mono leader
  • ·Red Sea jigging (a must!)
  • ·Popping for GT & tuna
  • ·Long casts with no knot bump in the guides

Step by step

  1. 1Keep the braid under tension (teeth, knee or a holder)
  2. 2Wrap the fluorocarbon alternately over and under the braid (about 15–20 wraps)
  3. 3Under tension, the wraps bite into the braid
  4. 4Lock with 2–3 half hitches of the braid
  5. 5Trim the fluoro tag short, finish with an end knot in the braid
  6. 6Test it hard — the knot must not slip

Pro tip

Takes practice! Tie it 10 times at home, not for the first time on the boat. Keeping tension on the braid is the whole secret — the wraps must bite into it.
