Fishing in the Mediterranean
Egypt's Mediterranean coast — Alexandria, the North Coast, Marsa Matrouh, Damietta and Port Said — is the country's main shore-fishing water, with seabream, seabass, mullet and bluefish reachable from breakwaters and jetties.

What the fishing is like
Unlike the Red Sea, the Egyptian Mediterranean is a shore angler's coast. Alexandria alone accounts for the largest concentration of marks in the dataset: the Eastern Harbour corniche, breakwater blocks, harbour walls, rocky headlands and the warm-water outlets that hold fish through winter. Boat fishing exists but is not the default.
The species mix is temperate rather than tropical: gilthead seabream, white and two-banded bream, European seabass, grey mullet, bogue, garfish, sole, sardine, bluefish and leerfish. Float and bottom fishing dominate, with spinning for the predators.
The Mediterranean follows a different regulatory schedule from the Red Sea. Normal rules still apply, including protected areas, size limits, seasonal closures and governorate regulations, so check the current local decision before fishing.
Winter is a real season here, not an off-season. Several of the most productive marks are warm-water outlets and sheltered harbour corners that concentrate fish when the open coast is rough.
