Fishing in the North Coast
Egypt's North Coast, from Alexandria west to Marsa Matrouh and the Libyan border, is clear-water Mediterranean shore fishing for seabream, seabass, bluefish and bonito.

What the fishing is like
The North Coast is the clearest water on Egypt's Mediterranean side. West of Alexandria the harbours thin out, the sand turns white and the water goes turquoise — closer to the Aegean than to the working ports of the Delta. Marsa Matrouh is the western anchor, with its sheltered bay, and the coast either side of it is rock, sand and shallow reef.
Fishing here is overwhelmingly from shore: rocky headlands, breakwaters, jetties and the bay mouths. Float and bottom fishing take the seabream, mullet and bogue; spinning takes the bluefish, bonito and the occasional amberjack when they push inshore.
The season is narrower than Alexandria's. This coast is exposed, the summer resort season crowds the accessible spots, and winter storms make most of the western marks unfishable. Late spring and autumn are the working windows.
Mediterranean water follows a different schedule from the Red Sea. Normal size limits, seasonal closures and governorate rules still apply.
